Ask Annie – What makes Breakthrough different?
Now that we have been open for a few months, and have been meeting more of the Woodland Hills community, we have noticed there are a few recurring questions we get asked about what makes our gym different. Furthermore, our members are asking how to properly explain our gym to friends, family, and anyone who inquires about it! We want people to know how awesome the way that we train is, and would love to have more training partners for you all, because as Kati said in a prior Kati’s Fit Kit, “community is key!”
So how do we explain Breakthrough to someone who has never been there before? Here are some tips!
Q: Can I just drop in anytime and train on my own?
A: Unlike “big box” gyms, where you are left on your own with no guidance, we believe it is important to have a coach to get you the best results every time you train. Our gym is what is sometimes known as a “training studio”. We have small group classes that our members can drop into whenever they are offered. We also have semi-private sessions available, where our members work on a custom program designed just for them with no more than 4 people per coach. These sessions are scheduled in advance so we can always keep the coach to trainee ratio low, and have your program ready for you when you come in.
Q: There aren’t any machines at Breakthrough? What kind of gym is that!?
A: There aren’t! Machines don’t work your smaller, stabilizing muscles, therefore not being as advantageous for building real, functional strength and balance. The exercises that we do pack more bang for your buck by getting more work done in less time, as well as focusing on multiple muscle groups at a time, rather than say, just doing “leg day,” etc…
Q: I have had injuries and surgeries, there’s no way that I could train at Breakthrough, is there?
A: If you have the “go ahead” from your doctor, we are happy to meet you where you are at to design a program that’s right for you. A trainer meets with every single person before their first workout and goes through an intake form pertaining to their training and health/injury background. Then they do a functional movement screen to see how your body moves, and customize your program according to your goals and movement needs. Breakthrough’s motto is “celebrating the strength in us all,” so there’s no set shape that you need to be in to train here!
Q: Is there any type of nutrition support offered at Breakthrough to supplement the training?
A: In fact, there is! Every member is issued a Nutrition Journal that is packed with lots of nutrition recommendations to help you meet your goals! The Nutrition Journals are great for tracking what you eat and can be brought back into the gym for one of the trainers to check your progress and see if anything needs to be adjusted to help you get where you want to go!
